Web Designer/Graphic Designer, BetFred.com (Nov 10 - Present) - full time position
My current role at BetFred.com is a frontend web designer, with the vast majority of my time being spent on design. My daily work involves creating fresh graphics for each new BetFred promotion (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash) both on and off the site. I am responsible for affiliate banners, landing pages, general maintenance of the site and development of new site features. BetFred is a large, well-known, UK based bookmaker with a wide online presence, the website has hundreds of thousands of visits per week.

Frontend Web Designer, GetTheLabel.com (Jun 09 - Oct 10) - full time position
At GetTheLabel I was the front-end web and graphic designer. Graphical emails were designed weekly for promotions/offers with a high emphasis on design. Likewise the homepage of the website was refreshed every week. I was responsible for affiliate banners (Flash) and advertisement campaigns. I built GetTheBlog and fronted our social media campaigns. The working environment allowed for my work to be seen by thousands of people daily - this kept me on my toes!

Web Designer/Developer, Fisheye Web Design and New Media (Mar 09 - June 09) - freelance temporary
Soon after my return from travelling I worked as a freelance Web Designer/Developer for Fisheye Web Design, a company based in Wem, Shropshire. Although working full time hours I was only ever going to be at Fisheye until I found a permanent job. I was working with PHP, Photoshop, Xcart, Protx, Javascript, HTML, CSS, etc. The sites were mostly large, database driven, dynamic sites with user areas and e-commerce functionality - not to mention having to look nice!

Web Designer/Developer, Greenmedia (Jun 07 - Feb 08) - full time position
After graduating I took employment with a web design and online marketing company based in Newcastle. I was involved with the clients websites through the whole process, from design to implementation to testing and marketing. Every website was unique and customised to the clients needs, they each had a custom written Content-Management-System (CMS) and were predominantly written in PHP. This job really honed my PHP, Flash and Photoshop skills.
- Website Design, Banks of the Wear (Nov 06 - Feb 07) - work experience
As a set 120 hours work experience placement done during my final year at university I was responsible for the design and creation of a new website for a local charity. Training the staff to update the website was also required. This was my first experience of working on a large scale website in a commercial environment.

Photographer for facesinplaces.co.uk (Feb 06 - Jan 07) - part time work
As a part time job whilst still a student I would take pictures for events, nights out and at various venues hoping to promote themselves.

Relevant Experience
- Webmaster - Newcastle University Mountaineering Club (2006 - 07)
Throughout my final year at university I took the position of webmaster on the mountaineering club committee. The website that was used is one that I jointly created with another club member. It was my responsibility to maintain, upgrade and advertise the website. For more details see my Web Design Portfolio.
- Team Leader in Winning Team for Stage 2 Group Project (2005 - 06)
In the second year of my degree everyone on a computing course takes part in a group project, this spans the year and is ran as a competition between groups. Our project was to design, implement and advertise software that could be used on a PDA to inform holidaymakers of local attractions, weather, translations, etc. Our prize for winning this was £500 and entrance into the IBM University Team Challenge
- 4th Place - IBM University Team Challenge (2006)
The IBM challenge is the best groups from fourteen of the best universities competing against one another in tests of aptitude, logic, computing and physical skills. This happened at IBM Hursley (Their main UK development location)

Chair of Sixth Form Council (2002 - 03)
In my first year of college I was chair of the sixth form council, my responsibilities here were to hold weekly meetings, communicate with senior members of staff and delegate tasks to do with the general running of the sixth form.
Sporting Achievements
- Mountain Bike / BMX
My main sporting interest has always revolved around some sort of cycling. In the past I competed to a national level in downhill mountain biking. I won many trophies and had received local sponsorship. BMX is my main focus now, this is primarily due to moving from the country to the city. - Mountaineering
I have been mountaineering and climbing for over four years now, I climb indoors, outdoors and occasionally on ice. I enjoy spending time in the mountains whenever possible.
- Skiing
I have been skiing since the age of ten and have thus spent a lot of time abroad. I raced for my school several times and was an active member of Newcastle University Ski Club.
Travel
- Round the World Trip (April 08 - Feb 09)
Between April 2008 and Feb 2009 I spent ten months on a round the world adventure, visiting fifteen countries including Canada, USA, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. In the eight months I spent one month working in Canada and one in Tasmania. For photos from this trip see the photography page.
- Australia / Tasmania (2004)
In between my first and second year at college I was fortunate enough to be offered work as a hedgelayer in Tasmania. This worked perfectly as it meant I could pay for my flights and internal travel by living and working in a completely different culture.
- Caribbean (2006)
Summer 2006 myself and three close friends went island hopping in the Caribbean for a month. We travelled to the Dominican Republic, Peurto Rico, US Virgin Islands and The British Virgin Islands.
- Europe
I have done various trips around Europe with friends. Places include: Holland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Austria.
